Since there is no separate 'Retiree VISA' in Germany, and given the reputation of some Auslanderbehorden for long application timelines, we chose to invest in legal assistance rather than attempt the process on our own. All interaction with Herr Tillman was easily accomplished virtually (email or video chat), and in the end, from the time our application package was submitted, we received our permits in 3 months, which we consider a very good timeframe.
