Equine Law

Sarah Liebisch is a lawyer at Schlun & Elseven Rechtsanwälte PartG mbB. As a member of our German employment and labour law practice group, Ms. Liebisch offers expert legal advice to both employees and employers on all matters relating to the employment relationship. She also has expertise in German inheritance law, primarily in the areas of will drafting, estate planning, and business succession.

Her long-standing passion for equestrian sports motivates Ms. Liebisch to support both horse owners and breeders in all matters relevant to German equine law – be it the conclusion of horse purchase contracts, the enforcement of warranty claims or liability issues.

Legal Advice for Employees in Germany

As a member of our German employment law practice group, Sarah Liebisch handles all employment law matters, from employment termination and dismissal issues to drafting employment contracts, service and work contracts, and the participation rights of a works council. She advises and represents both employees and their representatives alongside the head of our practice group, Dr. Thomas Bichat. Her clients include works councils, youth and trainee representatives, representatives for the severely disabled, staff councils, election committees and trade unions.

Whether your concerns are related to the termination of your employment, negotiating a severance payment, an outstanding wage payment or annual leave disputes – Ms. Liebisch knows how to enforce your rights as an employee. With an eye for detail, she will review your employment contract or your employment reference concerning any problematic clauses or wording. Regarding conflicts between employees and employers, her strong negotiating skills enable her to find practical solutions, often avoiding costly and lengthy legal disputes.

Legal Advice for Employers in Germany

As an employer in Germany, you always bear significant responsibility for your company and its employees. As an experienced employment and labour lawyer, Sarah Liebisch is happy to support you in all labour-related tasks and all phases of the employment relationship – from job advertisement to hiring to termination. In this way, she ensures that you, as an employer, are always legally on the safe side.

As a lawyer specialising in German inheritance law, Ms. Liebisch provides comprehensive legal assistance in all legal and inheritance tax matters that become relevant before and after an inheritance. Regardless of whether your concern is the drafting of a will, estate planning, or securing and planning for business succession, she will support you with the necessary tact.

Due to its potential for conflict, inheritance matters often present the parties involved with considerable challenges, not only from a legal point of view. If an out-of-court settlement in the event of a dispute appears to be fruitless, Ms. Liebisch will assert your interests in court.

Complex inheritance cases with an international dimension also fall within her area of expertise. In cooperation with Dr. Bichat, she develops versatile solutions across the entire spectrum of inheritance law. Ms. Liebisch takes on both the drafting of wills and estate planning with an international dimension for our clients. When handling an inheritance case, Sarah Liebisch first clarifies which national inheritance law is applicable in your case to avoid double or multiple taxation as far as possible.

Whether it’s a warranty when buying a horse, claims for damages arising from animal owner liability or mistreatment by a vet or farrier – Ms. Liebisch is at your side to enforce your rights and interests. Her areas of expertise also include:

  • The examination of horse boarding contracts.
  • Building law permits for riding facilities and horse stables.
  • Regulatory problems.

She also supports facility operators in concluding contracts with clients and clarifying liability issues related to horse transport. She also provides comprehensive support to equestrian clubs in their establishment, in complying with traffic safety and due diligence obligations, and in all legal matters related to the organisation of tournaments and other events. Sarah Liebisch attends the annual German Horse Law Day (Deutschen Pferderechtstag) to keep up to date with the latest developments in German equine law.

Horses have been her constant companions since she was a child. She became state champion with her first pony, was twice in the pony dressage rider squad, and has had success up to the middle class in dressage. During her studies, she continuously gained experience in training young horses. She passed the trainer’s licence in Neustadt/Dosse and worked for several months in the training stable of Philipp Hess. She later worked as the manager of a riding school in Siegerland and gave riding lessons during her stay in the USA. She completed her elective station during her legal clerkship at the German Equestrian Federation. Sarah Liebisch also has a degree in equestrian sports management.
