To gain the German Medical Treatment Visa, parties need to be successful with their application. When applying for such a visa, some documents are required, such as:
- A fully completed and signed application form for a national visa,
- their passport,
- two recent biometric photographs,
- letter from the attending doctor, hospital or clinic in the Schengen States containing the following information:
- estimate of costs/clarification of the question of costs,
- diagnosis and treatment plan,
- date and expected duration of treatment,
- proof of travel and accommodation,
- travel health insurance,
- proof of financing the trip.
Depending on the life situation, the following documents may also be required:
- For retired persons: Pension certificates,
- Students: Certificate of enrolment and no objection certificate,
- Employees: Wage slips, employment contract as well as proof of permission for leave of absence,
- Self-employed persons: documents on existing property relations.
You can apply for the German Medical Treatment Visa at the German embassy, the German consulate or a visa office in your home country. We advise you to submit your application early. If you submit it too late, your application may be rejected. However, an exception will be made in the case of sudden deteriorating health conditions, and therefore the applicant requires urgent treatment.
The German Medical Treatment Visa for Minors
If the applicant is a minor, a copy of their birth certificate as well as the passport of the persons holding permanent or temporary parental authority or guardianship is also required. The legal guardians must also consent to the application. With regard to this consent, there are special features that depend on the number of legal guardians accompanying the minor when submitting the application.
The signatures of both custodians are required on the application, provided they are present. If only one person with custody accompanies the minor, the notarised consent of the other person with custody is required. If, on the other hand, only one person is entitled to custody, this must be proven by means of a court decision or a corresponding certificate/deed.
